Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano

The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano is one of Italy’s leading cultural institutions, promoting symphonic music through concerts, education, and artistic initiatives while acting as an ambassador of Milanese culture in Italy and abroad. As part of a broader growth strategy, the organisation transitioned from its historic name, LaVerdi, to Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, reinforcing its connection to the city while positioning itself as a contemporary reference point for symphonic music.

The challenge was to create an identity capable of expressing both the universality of music and the distinctive character of Milan. As part of the Orchestra’s evolution, the identity was designed to attract new generations, transforming the perception of symphonic music from something formal and distant into something vibrant, contemporary, and culturally relevant.
The identity draws inspiration from Milanese Futurism and the concept of synesthesia, transforming sound into visual expression. The logo takes cues from the spires of the Duomo, combining architectural precision with the propagation of sound through solids and voids. A bespoke typeface extends this relationship further, drawing from the rational geometries of Milanese architecture while responding dynamically to music itself.

The result is an identity that exists between music and image, heritage and experimentation. A visual system designed not simply to represent an orchestra, but to embody the energy, movement, and cultural ambition of a city in constant evolution.
